I am sure that Enfield conoisseurs will cry and shout, but in now way I would have spent time to redo this Indian Enfiels the way it was.
We took 2 indian "custom 500" an ugly model made in the 90's. An attempt made by Enfield to follow the fashion of custom bikes, some poor quality chrome on a few bolts, awful painting with hand drawn stripes (the painter must have drunk something before doing mine). The gaz tank was rised with quick made pieces of metal welded on somehing that could have been bullet tanks, it proudly exhibited huge meters envelopped with terrific chrome plastic pans .... These two bikes were unsold models zero km (or miles ?) taken for 600 USD from a dealer who went on bankruptcy..
After some refreshing, leaks killing, chrome plating (in Australia), a lot of hand made parts (see the original fork cleaned from all useless protuberances, and polished, or the carb filter made out of an old aluminium mast of a wind surf, and the rear fender re cut from the original one !), and a few parts from Harley Davidson, like the tank, the front fender,(My friend used to be the local HD dealer, in New Caledonia). Soem extra parts were mported from the US or Canada (reinforced oil pump, saddle, electronic ignition).
The engine was cleaned too, all cast mistakes filed and polished, seals changed, etc...(allthough the engine was new !).
The bike on the picture is now back in France, the other one (exactly the same in grey) remained in New Caledonia (south Pacific Islands),
Of course, with a true old English Bullet, I would have avoided this crime.
